Not as Easy as it Looks!

// May 29th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Project Blogger

So the blog has been up for nearly two months now. Initially the blog was set up to keep track of me and the experiences of trying to make money online. Well, I have to admit, there hasn’t many experiences as I have not had the time or motivation as I would have liked.

I think it is something that every blogger would go through from time to time. Why waste a few hours thinking and writing about something that 1 maybe 2 people will see? What is the point? It is hard to get motivted to blog every day when I look at the sites stats and see that there is barely a hit a day. But then I get one good day where the hits improve by about 1000% and it puts a smile on my face.

At least once a week the hits seem to go crazy for a few hours, then back down to where they have been for the majority of the time.

So why low hits? Well, if you look through the archive there hasn’t exactly been a great lot of content added to the site over the past two months. Due to a mixture of lack of time and lack of motivation, I have not put as much time as I would have liked into this blog.

I work with computers, I am on the internet every day for mroe than 8 hours, so surely I have enough to write about. I am currently working on Nameseek, which I mentioned in my last few posts. I am constantly searching ways to bring hits to the site, so I could write about that too. I could also write about my daily experiences at work. So there is definately no excuse not to blog at least a few times a week.

So hits or no hits, I am making more of an effort to blog at least 4 times a week. I might even spend some time creating a new design for this place, its a bit plain isn’t it??

Hits:

In the past two months the site has received a few hundred hits, mostly come from Entrecard. I doubt many of the visitors from Entrecard spend more than a minute on the site, let alone read the content. I am guessing everyone would drop their card and move on to the next site.

Google has brought me a handful of hits, and one user, also called Daniel Felice, contacted me via the form to see if I was the Daniel Felice who grew up in Sydney and played in the same cricket club as him. I am that Daniel Felice and we exchanged a few mails and determined that the world was pretty small as Felice would be a rare Maltese name, so to have two in Sydney and who played at the same cricket club, grew up in nearby suburbs was one in a billion.

Revenue:

In terms of revenue the site has made about $5. Not bad considering I have updating the blog a few times and not make much of an effort. Most of the money has come from Bidvertiser, and the rest from Kontera. Dealdotcom has not made me anything, so I might drop them and replace it with something else. But, I’ll wait another month or two and see how it goes with my new found motivation.

So thats the two monthly report, I’ll be back to report on the next month and on the progress of my current online project, Nameseek.com.au

As mentioned in the last post, I have been working on my new domain name auction website over the past few weeks – Nameseek. I am currently testing the script, and will aim to launch on June 1.

You can visit the site at the moment as I have not locked it down while testing so at the moment it is free to add a item.  Actually if you do have a domain you are looking to buy/sell check it out and it might even help me with the testing!

At the moment I have not set up any advertising, text link ads or affilate programmes. I will worry about getting the site functional and working and spend the first month or two driving some traffic to the site. I don’t have a plan of attack yet, but I think I might aim at some web and domain message boards and forums to try and spread the word, and even target domain registrars.

The target audience to begin with will be users who are looking to buy/sell the .au domain name. I will use this as the basis of promoting the site, even though the site will allow users to sell websites and sripts.

As the site hopefully gains some interest and hits, I will find a decent domain name reseller and sell domains on the site, as well as hosting and use my own skills to offer web design services for users who are looking for a complete package – though that is a few months down the line! For now lets just concentrate on one thing at a time!

So don’t be affraid to check it out – http://www.nameseek.com.au!

My New Project

// May 8th, 2008 // No Comments » // The Internet

Over the past few weeks I have been working my new internet project. Earlier this year it was announced that the Australian Domain Name Administrator would be allowing the sale of the .au domain names for the first time.

Having been buying and trying to sell .com domain names for a while I thought it might be a good idea to attempt to get into the selling and brokering of the .au domain names.

With over 1 million Australian Domain’s registered there will definately be a market for the trading of domains so hopefully if I get in early enough it might be a bit of a winner.

There doesn’t seem to be anyone selling the .au domains at the moment, so I think it will be a niche market and getting in early will be the key to some success hopefully!

So the site will be launched in the next few weeks. I have called it Name Seek: The Australian Domain Name Aftermarket and it will be available at http://www.nameseek.com.au.
