Selling of FreeBPThemes.com

// November 11th, 2009 // No Comments » // Buddypress

A few weeks ago I sold Free BuddyPress Themes and the domain names that go with it. After setting up the site about 9 months ago, it turned out to be a fairly good investment for the amount of work that was put into it.

Hits were about 5500 on average each month and the site was pretty well listed in the search engines for keywords based around “BuddyPress Themes”. I had a few ads on the site and was making a small income from them each month.

I offered the site to a fairly well known business involved in the WordPress MU community and I think they’ll do a great job with it. It needed some commitment and dedication and I just didn’t have the time to commit to it.

Integrating WPMU, BuddyPress and bbPress (updated)

// July 20th, 2009 // No Comments » // Buddypress

Chris at The Easy Button has updated her guide to integrating the latest versions of WordPress MU, BuddyPress and bbPress.

With the recent changes and updates to all three components over the past few weeks, the older guide that was created a few months ago was a little bit out of date and no longer worked.

You can get the guide here. Thanks Chris!

BuddyPress 1.0.3 Released

// July 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // Buddypress

This new update fixes any compatibility issues with WordPress MU 2.8.1 which was released last week. As a result it will only work with the new version of WPMU so make sure you download and install  2.8.1 before upgrading to BuddyPress 1.0.3.

This update also includes a new widget API which will require you to re-add and configure your BP widgets.

From what I have read in the forums Facebook Connect for BuddyPress does not work anymore, and with no one owning this plugin (Andy made the last modifications to it) it might be a while before it works again. For this reason I’ll be holding off upgrading Explore With Me.

There are a few small bugs related to language translation which Andy is aware of and will have fixed in another update shortly.

WordPress MU 2.8.1 & BuddyPress 1.0.2

// July 11th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // Buddypress, Wordpress

WordPress MU 2.8.1 was released the other day, however if you are running the latest version of BuddyPress you should hold off upgrading until we are given the green light from the guys at BuddyPress.

There does not seem to be any major issues currently known and the testing I have done with the two current versions doesn’t seem to break anything, but there are a few little things that will need to be looked at before BP 1.0.2 is WPMU 2.8.1 ready.

If you are running bbPress with deep intergration you will also need to change a few things in the config files in order to ensure it still works. Check out the forums for all the latest updates.

Photo Album Plugin for BuddyPress

// June 4th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Buddypress

Rather than wait for BuddyPress version 2, Manoj Kumar has developed a Photo Album plugin for BuddyPress that is currently receiving high praise on the BuddyPress forums. The offical BuddyPress photo album isn’t scheduled to be ready until late 2009, however for those of you who don’t want to wait this should fill the gap for the next few months.

The plugin is currently in Beta however updates seem to be happening on a regular basis and with your testing it will hopefully be stable soon.

I am yet to test the plugin, however I will be installing it on the new version of Explore With Me in the coming weeks.

How this plugin will react to the official BP plugin that will be released in late 2009, who knows. But BP developer Andy Peatling has mentioned on the forums that there should be any issues. To me that suggests that he might build upon this plugin and implement it as the official BP Album, but we’ll have to wait and see.
