Last week I was asked to answer a few questions for SocialMediaPortal.com in regards to my work on Explore With Me. The Social Media Portal (SMP) is a resource that maps global social media, social networks and user generated content (UGC).

Looking at my search engines stats, you are probably here becuase you searched for “BuddyPress Themes” or something similar, so I am taking this opportunity to remind you about the BuddyPress Theme Contest that is currently running.

Thanks to WPMU DEV Premium, we are offering you the chance win 12 months premium membership valued at US$250. All you have to do is submit your original theme and let our visitors decide which theme deserves this fantastic prize offered by the guys at WPMU DEV Premium.

Here is how the contest will be run:

• There are 2 categories in which you can submit a theme for; Home theme and Member theme
• Submissions will be open from April 30 – May 30, 2009
• All submitted themes will be uploaded to FreeBPThemes.com on June 1, 2009 for public voting
• Voting will commence June 1 – June 14, 2009
• The winners will be announced June 15, 2009
• 12 months FREE WPMU DEV Premium membership (valued at US$250) will be awarded to the theme with the most votes in each category.

How to Enter:

• Design an original Home or Member BuddyPress theme
• Submit your theme to FreeBPThemes.com using our online form by May 30, 2009

Wednesday Ramblings

I know it’s an odd day to have a “ramblings” post, but I’ve never done one and have a few thoughts going through my head that I want in writing so I actually make sure they happen!

• Twitter: Been spending a lot of time in Twitter this week. Not sure why really, but for some reason this week I am hooked on it! I am updating it a few times a day and I have had a lot of new followers this week! Follow me on Twitter!
• Blog via Mobile Phone: Trying to find a plugin that will allow Explore With Me users to create new blog posts using their mobile phone. There is an WordPress iPhone plugin but I don’t want to limit it to only people who have an iPhone. I have had a quick look around but will spend some more time on this over the weekend and probably wait until WordPress MU 2.7 arrives before implementing anything.
• Explore With Me: Concentrating on getting some new content written this week. I am holding off updating features, themes, plugins, etc until WordPress MU 2.7 is out. I don’t want to do any major changes until the new version is out as some of it might not work. Once WPMU 2.7 is out I will also write the “Help & Support” pages which will teach users the basics of WordPress.
• Danielfelice.com: Need to do some work on this blog. I should clean up all the affiliate and adverts on the site as they don’t bring in any revenue. I get a handful of clicks, but I think I need a new approach here. Need to do some research.
• Sharing the Knowledge: Helping a friend from work get setup with his own blog. I sent him my “How to” guides so now he is in the process of registering a domain name, hosting and setting up WordPress. Should be interesting!
• Thats about it!

Advertise Here!

As of now, anyone can advertise on danielfelice.com! I am constantly on the search for ads to put on the site in order to generate some revenue and at the moment alot of the ads on the blog do not really generate any revenue worth mentioning, so I figure it would be a good idea to allow people to advertise on the blog if they actually want to – rather than have a bunch of ads sitting on the site receiving a click or two a day.

The blog seems to be constantly growing at the moment. So far, this month is on track for about a 300% increase on hits than previous months. Hits are coming from all over the world, and are coming from a range of referrers, and even from search engines!

It will cost no more than US$20 (468 x 60 banner) a month to advertise on danielfelice.com, which I think it pretty cheap for that type of ad on a site that is constantly increasing in the page rankings.

I have even been a bit bold and added a “donate” button on the advertise page just in case some of you don’t have a product to advertise but want to support me anyway.

I am not expecting to sell much advertising space at the moment, but in this game of attempting to make money off the internet you have to take some risks and be a bit bold if you want to succeed. It might only bring in US$20 here and there, but it is US$20 that I didn’t have at the start, so it all ads up.

At the moment all of the ad spaces are available. While they are not used, I will just continue with my ads from the various affiliate networks I am associated with. I’ll even throw in a free blog post to the first advertiser!
