A Bit Quiet…

// June 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // General

I have been a bit quiet lately – not much blogging has been happening! This is because I have been flat out with a few freelance projects, and getting organised for my 40 day tour of Europe before I head back home to Australia after spending the last 3 years in Ireland.

It is a busy time, and I will be flat out until at least September the way things are going. I will head off on holidays in a few weeks, and then leave Ireland for Australia via Europe in August.

Before I go I want to redevelop Explore With Me. It needs a total revamp and I have some good ideas which I think will work well – and we have a travel company that has sponsored 25% of our tour so we want it to look good as it will get some good traffic in August.

When I do blog is all seems to be about BuddyPress. That is because my life seems to be revolving around it at the moment. Between Explore With Me and my freelance work, that is all I seem to be doing. I have not really had the chance to concentrate on making money online through my websites so there is not much to blog about there – but FYI I am making a few dollars here and there.

It’ll be back to normal soon – I promise!

Travelling with Technology

// May 25th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // General

In a few months I am heading on a month long European trip with my girlfriend. While she is worried about how much she can fit in her backpack, I am worrying about how I am going travel with all the bits of technology that I plan on bringing with me.

As we will blogging about the trip on Explore With Me, we need this equipment to ensure we get our readers as close to the action as possible.

Here is what is on the list so far:

  • Apple iPod Touch – Music is essential to get me through the various flights and bus rides. Along with the 5000 songs, the wifi enabled device will keep me online so I don’t miss out on anything important while on the road.
  • Canon IXUS 7 Camera – This small point and shoot 7.1 megapixel camera  is perfect to capture all types of scenes while travelling Europe. It is small enough to fit in my pocket so I won’t miss anything!
  • nikon_d60Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera – Slightly larger than the point and shoot, and with a 200mm lens this is probably going to cause the most grief while away. But this is a trip of a lifetime and we want to make sure we take fantastic shots of our time away. We also plan on printing and framing some photos so a camera like this is a must have.
  • JVC Everio 30GB HDD Video Camera – Another must have while away, this video camera records to the Hard drive so no need for tapes or discs. It is fairly small and compact so carrying it won’t be an issue.
  • Flip Ultra Video Camera – A pocket size video camera with 2GB of memory. This will be used to capture video that will be uploaded to Explore With Me. The camera has a USB “flip” arm that you can plug into a computer and upload videos at the touch of a button.
  • Light Weight Notebook – As we will be blogging about our adventure on Explore With Me, we need something to process all the photos and videos and connect us to the internet daily so we can provide updates. We will be connecting to the internet using a 3G USB modem from Vodafone, though it isn’t cheap so time online each day will be minimal. We should be able to use the iTouch if we can find an internet connection to provide more regular updates, so the laptop will only come out at the end of the day.

Explore With Me Update

// October 19th, 2008 // No Comments » // Projects

Just a quick progress update on explorewithme.com. We had a productive weekend and nearly finished the design of the site and are continuing the add articles to the site.

Explorewithme.com hits have been very very good considering the site has not even launched yet. I am embarrassed to say, but it received more hits last week than this blog did! We even have users who have added the site to delicious.com and subscribed to the RSS feed.

We added a forum over the weekend to attempt to build a bit of a community among travellers and we have another idea that we hope will take off – though I can’t discuss that with you yet and probably won’t be able to until the end of the year – but it is very exciting.

Before we officially launch we need to add more articles and tidy a few things up. A logo needs to be designed, redesign the forum, fix the contact forms, create an about page and a lot more! Then it is just a matter of getting the word out and drive traffic to the site.

If all goes well we will launch in the next week but definitely by the end of the month!

Explore With Me

// October 4th, 2008 // No Comments » // Projects

I mentioned a few days ago that I was about to embark on a new project – a travel blog which documents all our travels around the world in the hope to educate want to be travellers and maybe teach them a thing or two.

Ruth and I have been trying to come up with a few names to represent the blog as we don’t really want something like “danielandruthstravelblog.com” and so on.

We decided on a name yesterday and I registered the domain name just in case it is the one we choose. Before we decide whether to use this name we thought we would sit on it for a while and see how we feel about it in a week. Sometimes what sounds good one day doesn’t seem to the next. It has been a few days and I seem to like this one.

At the moment our blog will be called “Explore With Me” – www.explorewithme.com. This is what we are going to call the blog unless we find another name that we like better – however I want to get it up and running by the end of this month so we will have to make a decision soon.

What do you think?

After doing 70-620 and 220-601, many professionals state that going for 70-649 before the advanced SY0-101 is a smarter move.
